The Hasami Porcelain Mug in Gloss Gray is a blend of crushed Amakusa pottery stone and clay under a glossy gray glaze that stops short of the rim and the foot, leaving both bare so the raw porcelain shows against the shine. It is smooth in the hand where the glaze runs, and the clay body is only felt at the unglazed edges. The glaze reacts with the clay in the kiln, and the color and texture that come out differ a little from mug to mug; no two are exactly alike. Takuhiro Shinomoto designed it in Venice, California in 2010, and it is made in Hasami, Nagasaki, where porcelain has been produced…
