It threads into the bottom base and carries the water line connection, so if the threads are stripped or the inlet is cracked this is the part to replace rather than the whole valve. Petersen part number 100-0836. Petersen also builds a 1/2 inch inlet, part 100-0835, for units plumbed with a smaller line, so check which one you have before ordering.
